building a castle

There are no shortage of castles in Japan. I've had the pleasure of visiting a few of them during my visits there. The biggest one is in the city of Himeji which is on the main island of Honshu about a 30-40 min train ride from Osaka. The challenge to model castles like this in any 3D modeling software is getting the roof correct. It's not like a straight a-frame roof. There are all kinds of details and bends that need to be incorporated into the design. And then of course, a castle like this has a bunch of different levels of the same type of roof, and a bunch of structures that surround the castle that all have the same type of roof. You get the picture. And I didn't include any of the statues or the finishes of the windows. There's a bunch to do. Here's an image of the castle and the blocky first pass of the model I created. There is of course a lot of room for improvement.
