My vision for the game was that it would be like a 3PS (3rd person shooter) but without the S. The opponents/enemies make close quarter attacks (e.g. pushing, punches, chops) and the player defends against these attacks using aikido at the press of a button. I went back and forth on whether it should be like a first person shooter, but the practice of randori in aikido requires the use of your peripherals. Your visibility is somewhat limited in an FPS and that's why I decided to do it as a 3PS (or maybe it should be 3PD? 3rd person defense?)
Full disclosure, I'm not an artist. I never took any proper art courses outside of what was required during elementary/middle school. That being said, I made a few rough sketches on what I think the game should look like:
